If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.

If you fear that you will not do justice to the orphans, then, marry the women you like, in twos, in threes and in fours. But, if you fear that you will not maintain equity, then (keep to) one woman, or bondwomen you own. It will be closer to abstaining from injustice.

Et si vous craignez de n'être pas justes envers les orphelins,...Il est permis d'épouser deux, trois ou quatre, parmi les femmes qui vous plaisent, mais, si vous craignez de n'être pas justes avec celles-ci, alors une seule, ou des esclaves que vous possédez. Cela afin de ne pas faire d'injustice (ou afin de ne pas aggraver votre charge de famille).

Se temerdes ser injustos no trato com os órfãos, podereis desposar duas, três ou quatro das que vos aprouver, entre as mulheres. Mas, se temerdes não poder ser eqüitativos para com elas, casai, então, com uma só, ou conformai-vos com o que tender à mão. Isso é o mais adequado, para evitar que cometais injustiças.

Und wenn ihr fürchtet, nicht gerecht gegen die Waisen zu sein, so heiratet, was euch an Frauen gut ansteht, zwei, drei oder vier; und wenn ihr fürchtet, nicht billig zu sein, (heiratet) eine oder was im Besitz eurer rechten (Hand ist). So könnt ihr am ehesten Ungerechtigkeit vermeiden.
